The team was contacted by the police about an overdue fell runner whose last known position had been in the Eskdale area. Whilst enquiries were being made they turned up safe and well.

Ill Crag – Wed 16th May 2012

We were called by the Police regarding a 27 yr old man who was scrambling on the Eskdale face of Ill Crag and had sustained a 15m tumble fall and was now in pain and could not walk. We responded with a full callout and also asked for the assistance of a Sea King from RAF Boulmer, and later on, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team. We located the man half way up the right hand ridge of Little Narrowcove at the same time as the Sea King arrived. This is about as remote a place as we have in our area. The man had sustained pelvic injuries and was in significant pain. The team doctor gave analgesia before the casualty was packaged into a vacuum mattress and stretcher for winching into the helicopter from the scene. Incident closed around 21:30. Approximately 18 Wasdale and 11 Duddon team members were involved.

St Bees Head – Thu 17th May 2012

The team was called out to assist a Coast to Coast walker who had injured his ankle on St Bees Head. The casualty was given casualty care by team doctors and carried back to St Bees by the Great North Air Ambulance.

Scafell Pike – Sat 12th May 2012

The team was contacted to assist a group of three walkers who had become lost whilst descending Scafell Pike. They were given directions over the phone back to Wasdale Head

Wastwater Screes – Mon 7th May 2012

Happy to be back at the vehicles

The team was contacted by the police to assist a pair of walkers who were stuck at the boulder field on the Wast Water Screes path. A limited callout was made and team members walked to their location from the south-western end of the lake. The walkers had a large dog with them that would not continue over the loose, slippery boulders so they were walked back to the north-eastern end of the lake, a much easier, if longer walk. This is the second dog rescue from the screes in six months (see here for the other one).

Brown Tongue, Scafell Pike – Sun 6th May 2012

The team was called out to attend an exhausted walker on Scafell Pike. He was a member of a large charity group and was unable to descend any further Due to concerns for his health a Sea King from RAF Boulmer was requested. The casualty was treated on scene and then was winched onto the helicopter for transfer to Whitehaven Hospital. video here

The team was contacted by the Police regarding a small boy who’d become separated from his walking party on Scafell Pike. By the time we had contacted the informant the boy had been relocated, safe & well.

Kells, Whitehaven – Thu 3rd May 2012

The team was called out to assist the Police with a search in the Kells area near Whitehaven for a missing male. Around 20 team members & 3 Search dogs attended along with the Coast Guard, St Bees lifeboat, Police & Police dogs unit. We stood down at around 2200. The male was found safe …

Scafell Pike – Mon 30th Apr 2012

The team was called to attend a fell walker with a suspected heart attack on Scafell Pike. Air support was requested and the Great North Air Ambulance attended. They dropped off their paramedic before lifting team members, including the team doctor, to the casualty site. The casualty and doctor were winched off the mountain by a Sea King from RAF Boulmer before being flown to Carlisle Infirmery. The team descended with the casualty’s companion to Brackenclose.
