A call was received from the North West Ambulance Service about a walker who had fallen, suffering head and facial injuries. Passing walkers had called it in and were supporting him.
A full callout was quickly initiated, and team members made their way to the scene. On arrival, shelter, warm clothing, and a full medical assessment were provided. Multiple injuries had been sustained due to a fall at pace on a steep downhill section of the path. The walker was placed into a vacuum mattress (full-body splint) and then into the team stretcher. On arrival at Brackenclose, a handover to an NWAS ambulance crew was made, before returning to base and resetting the vehicles.
We hope he recovers quickly from his injuries. We’d also like to thank the passing walking group for their kindness and care for the lone walker.
Incident started at 18:57 and ended at 23:54 making 5 hrs in total. There were 16 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 198073. Total rescuer hours: 80
