A call was received yesterday about a walker with an ankle injury near Ill Crag. He was unable to bear weight and continue.
The Team Leader quickly made a Full Callout to respond. Due to the remoteness of the casualty location, an air asset was requested but was unable to perform the rescue directly due to the cloud base. As a second best option, team members were uplifted to Lingmell Col and, with assistance from a nearby RAF team on training nearby, packaged and stretchered the walker off the hill to Wasdale Head, where members of his walking party transported him to hospital for further assessment.
Thanks to the crew of Rescue 199 and to RAF Leeming for their help.
We hope the walker makes a quick recovery from his injury.
A very long day for some team members who started the day with a 4:30am callout and returned to base at 11:30pm on the second.
Incident started at 13:55 and ended at 23:30 making 9.6 hrs in total. There were 20 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY226080. Total rescuer hours: 192
