Cumbria Police received a series of dropped 999 calls last Tuesday evening with insufficient information to justify MRT deployment over a potentially huge search area. It was originally directed to Keswick MRT but was directed to Wasdale MRT as the replayed call was believed to mention Scafell Pike.

The log remained open while further investigation was carried out or further information arrived. By morning, another call was received reporting two overdue walkers from a concerned family member. Cumbria Police matched one of these people to an empty car at Brackenclose.

The Team Leader deployed a full team to be on the hill before first light to conduct searches along the main routes in Wasdale and Eskdale. A search dog was also deployed. Thankfully the two walkers were located relatively quickly sheltering overnight in the Mickledore stretcher box, safe but cold, and were walked off the hill without further incident. A good outcome for what could have been a long day searching.

Incident started at 20:33 and ended at 10:53 making 14.3 hrs in total. There were 23 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 21038 06911. Total rescuer hours: 329
