Cumbria Police received a call via iPhone Emergency SOS reporting that two walkers had come across a 77-year-old male and his grandson, who were very cold. The team was unable to make contact with the casualty site due to the location, so the team deployed, along with Maritime and Coastguard Agency R897. Due to the weather, R897 was unable to get on location.

The team arrived, assessed and warmed up both casualties, and found the 77-year-old also had a wrist and knee injury; an urgent evacuation of the hill was commenced. The two walkers who had come across them had remained with them and their head torches had run out; as they were confident of their route back to Seathwaite, head torches were loaned to them to get back to their car. The casualty was stretchered off the hill and handed over to NWAS along with his grandson. The team returned to base to dry out the equipment before heading home.

Many thanks were extended to R897 for attempting to assist, and to the two walkers for calling it in and staying with the casualties.

Incident started at 20:32 and ended at 03:29 making 7 hrs in total. There were 14 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 22079 09080. Total rescuer hours: 98
