Cumbria Police received a call regarding a large dog who had cut his paw and was unable to descend Scafell Pike. The MRT Team Leader spoke with the owner, who had bandaged the paw and done a very good job getting the dog down as far as he had, but was unable to safely carry a 30kg dog the rest of the way.
A full team callout was initiated to assist. MRT assessed the dog, re‑bandaged the injury, and began the descent. Progress continued until the team met the stretcher party, where the dog was loaded onto the stretcher for the remainder of the journey off the hill.
The dog and owner were transported back to base to meet their taxi, ready to return to their vehicle in Seathwaite.
Incident started at 15:00 and ended at 20:30 making 5.5 hrs in total. There were 13 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 21311 07321. Total rescuer hours: 72
