The team was called by Cumbria Police after they received a call from two walkers who could not find their way back to their destination whilst descending from Scafell Pike after a very long day out. Their location was identified as the Corridor Route just before the Bad Step.
A limited callout was made to locate the walkers and escort them to safety. Shortly afterwards, a further call was received to say that a nearby wild camper had heard shouts, located the walkers and sheltered them at his tent at Chriscliffe Knotts until team members arrived.
The pair were located, given extra warm jackets and microspikes due to the icy conditions and were walked back to Brackenclose as the safest descent route. One of the walker’s previous knee injury worsened on the descent and he was given simple pain relief to help, alongside direct support from team members.
Once back safely to the valley, the walkers were taken to the The Wasdale Head Inn for overnight accommodation, special thanks to Steve there for making arrangements at short notice. We’d also like to thank William, the well equipped wild camper who took care of the walkers initially.
We hope the two walkers are none the worse for their very long day out, and managed to catch their planned onward public transport arrangements today.
Incident started at 18:35 and ended at 01:43 making 7.1 hrs in total. There were 8 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 219084. Total rescuer hours: 57
