Cumbria police alerted the team leader of a group of four people attempting the three peaks challenge, they had become lost when descending Scafell Pike. An off-duty policeman reported seeing a flashing light on Muncaster Fell, maybe 1 – 2km from the A595. A team member drove around the area looking for lights or parked cars in likely locations. Nothing was found and no-one had been reported missing.
The North West Ambulance service (NWAS) requested support from the whole of the Lake District Mountain Rescue Organisation, as for a while, they were inundated with requests for assistance and a large number of people were awaiting help.
