The team have just enjoyed an excellent long weekend in the Scottish Highlands carrying out Winter skills training. The course was attended by both experienced team members and probationary members. Last Monday’s training covered putting on snow chains ready for winter. This weekend’s weather proved their use as several mountain teams had vehicles out in snow. Also we tested out our new wheel from Lyon Equipment to good effect!

Sunday 29 October is Mountain and Cave Rescue Awareness Day, on the day when the clocks go back, and we remind walkers it will get dark an hour earlier in the afternoon, and not to get caught out.

The 12 mountain rescue teams in Cumbria were jointly nominated for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) by Superintendent Matthew Kennerley in 2019.
