Huge congratulations to our ‘Class of ‘21’ probationary members who successfully completed a mock callout this morning as their last training exercise. The team have just enjoyed an excellent long weekend in the Scottish Highlands carrying out Winter skills training. The course was attended by both experienced team members and probationary members. Last Monday’s training covered putting on snow chains ready for winter. This weekend’s weather proved their use as several mountain teams had vehicles out in snow. Also we tested out our new wheel from Lyon Equipment to good effect!
In August, this year’s probationary team members are around half way through their 12 months of training and we have already started our campaign to recruit next years probationers. Last Monday the team practised evacuating a casualty from a gorge or gully using a cableway. This involves setting up a rope system to manoeuvre a stretcher from one side to the other whilst also being able to raise and lower the stretcher. This post contains a fifteen minute video of the exercise.
Nearly twenty team members spent their Sunday practicing crag rescues at Diamond Crag in Eskdale. This was the first opportunity for many team members to use the new MPD lowering devices and practice important crag skills.
