The casualty warmly wrapped up in the cas bag ready for the descent
The team were called out to attend a woman who had sustained a broken shoulder in a stumble fall near the bad step on the corridor route. The alarm had been raised by a member of the casualty’s group who had descended to Wasdale Head. When the team arrived at the corridor route the casualty was not in the reported location and given the very strong winds and frequent showers we suspected that she would be trying to walk down to the valley. Whilst searching all the possible descent routes the casualty and the remaining member of her group were spotted a couple of hundred metres below the corridor route, before Skew Gill.
On the way down with the assistance of D&FMRT
A team doctor gave the casualty analgesia for her shoulder which was then strapped up for the stretcher carry down to Burnthwaite. We reached the vehicles just as it was getting dark and were grateful for the assistance of Duddon and Furness Team who provided extra manpower.
Incident started at 14:44 and ended at 20:15 making 5.5 hrs in total. There were 14 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 220 089 (altitude 512 m). Total rescuer hours: 77
