Weather

After spending the day walking across the tops of the Wasdale Screes, Illgill Head and Whin Rigg a couple made a very simple navigational error and followed what looked like a marked path into what we call Greathall Gill.
We are all human and thus prone to error, so after they descended into extremely difficult and dangerous terrain, the couple immediately called 999 and asked for Mountain Rescue.
Using the PhoneFind app the Team Leader was quickly able to identify their location and talk directly with the couple by mobile and reassure them that the team would be as quick as possible.
The team upon arrival was able to rig a system of safety lines and one by one helped the couple climb out of the Gill. Once back on the path the couple were given a quick check over by one of our Casualty Carers and then escorted back to the valley floor.
The team hopes the couple manage to put this experience behind them quickly and enjoy the rest of their visit to our valley.

Incident started at 15:18 and ended at 19:58 making 4.7 hrs in total. There were 10 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY142033. Total rescuer hours: 47
