The team was called by Cumbria Police about a lone walker who had reached the summit of Scafell Pike but had become disoriented in the mist. With wind chill high on the tops, conditions were poor. The walker was cold and wet and was unable to navigate down.
The Team Leader attempted to make contact but was unable to talk directly to the walker. A further call was also received from another walker who could hear cries for help, but could not locate them.
A full call-out was initiated and the team headed down the valley. After some time contact was finally made by mobile and it transpired that the lone walker had met up with the other walkers who had then escorted him off via the tourist path back to Wasdale Head.
With this good news the team was stood down and returned to base. Thanks to the walkers who helped prevent a potentially long call-out.
Incident started at 17:12 and ended at 21:08 making 3.9 hrs in total. There were 16 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 215072. Total rescuer hours: 62
