Diagnosis

Following a mobile ‘999’ call, the police paged the team to attend to a 73 yr old male walker who had collapsed on the summit of Great Gable. The man, who was local, had been walking with a friend and collapsed at he reached the summit and became unconscious. The team called in the RAF to assist but unfortunately the man did not recover. He had suffered a heart attack. He was stretchered down to Styhead Pass where the cloud base was and the RAF airlifted him back down to the Wasdale Head. There were 20 team members involved. The incident was closed at 18.00 hrs.

Incident started at 12:12 and ended at 18:00 making 5.8 hrs in total. There were 20 Wasdale team members involved. Total rescuer hours: 116
