A group of three peakers heard whistles and shouts from the Red Gill area of Scafell. They called the police who called out the team at about 6:30am. The advance party headed up the fell with some crag gear and first aid equipment whilst other team members brought up longer ropes and more equipment. The casualty was on a ledge just to the left of Red Gill on Scafell. She had spent the night on the ledge after losing her way on descent the previous evening and being unable to find a safe route down. The team ascended to her location and lowered her to safer ground. The team then accompanied the casualty back to Brackenclose and gave her a lift to Gosforth from where she took buses back to Keswick.
Staying put was a wise decision, the team has attended several very serious incidents around Red Gill. The casualty was also very well equipped, the fact that she was reported by the first group to enter Hollowstones shows the importance of a whistle.
Incident started at 06:30 and ended at 11:00 making 4.5 hrs in total. There were 14 Wasdale team members involved and the incident occured at NY 20544 06895 (altitude 753 m). Total rescuer hours: 63
